Where is that list now?
Exactly. Nobody knows. It has been three months of swim lessons, unexplained scheduling, and a cooler that has lived in the trunk since June with one warm juice box rolling around in it.
Here is the thing though. Summer is not over. It has seven days left, they start Monday, and they are the good ones.

Jellystone Park™ Columbus North runs “Work Hard, Play Harder: A Labor Day Celebration” from Monday, August 31 through Monday, September 7, 2026. Think backyard bash, scaled up to a whole campground: classic outdoor games, water balloon battles, s’mores around the fire, and Yogi Bear™ and friends making the rounds. And the detail that turns this from “sounds nice” into “book it tonight”: this is the last week of the 2026 season for every water amenity. All three pools, the waterslide, the swimming lake, the pedal boats and the Wibit floating obstacle course shut down after September 7 and stay closed until next spring.

The part where we ruin your ability to procrastinate
You know how kids treat the last day of anything? Absolutely feral. Zero pacing. Full send from open to close.
That is what the water looks like during Labor Day week here, and it is honestly the best version of it.
Three pools means nobody is fighting for a lane or a lounge chair. The waterslide runs until somebody’s legs give out. The swimming lake gives you that “we’re at a lake house” feeling without the lake house mortgage. And then there is the Wibit.
If you have not met a Wibit, it is a giant inflatable obstacle course floating out on the water, designed by someone who clearly understood that children want to climb a thing and then fall off it repeatedly. Your kid will attempt it with the confidence of an Olympian. Your kid will go in sideways. Your kid will surface laughing and immediately climb back on. Repeat for three hours while you sit in a chair being asked for absolutely nothing.
That is the whole pitch, and after Labor Day it packs up for the year.
Fall here is great, to be clear. Hayrides, campfires, the works. But no amount of cider changes the fact that you cannot cannonball in October.
What “Work Hard, Play Harder” actually means
Fair question, because “themed weekend” is a phrase that has burned all of us before. We have all shown up somewhere expecting an event and found one folding table and a bowl of Dum Dums.
This is a full week of programming, not a table.
Water balloon battles. Somebody is going to get absolutely soaked in the first ninety seconds and describe it at dinner like a war story.
Classic backyard games. Lawn game energy. Cornhole, races, the kind of thing where a dad you have never met becomes weirdly competitive and it is genuinely fun to watch.
Campfire s’mores. The official ceremonial closing of summer. Slightly burnt marshmallow, mandatory. This is not optional.
Yogi Bear™ and friends. Character appearances and photo ops. Little kids go absolutely wild. Big kids act too cool and then position themselves clearly in frame.
Every water amenity, one last time. Pools, slide, lake, pedal boats, Wibit. Open through Monday the 7th, then done.
The park’s regular lineup keeps running alongside all of it too: train rides, gem mining, fishing, the recreation center, basketball, playgrounds and hiking trails, plus golf cart rentals if you want to stop walking the loop eleven times a day. The drive is the easiest part
Here is where a lot of Labor Day plans die: the logistics.
Not this one. If you are in Columbus, Delaware, Westerville, Powell, Sunbury, Galena, Marion or Mansfield, you are looking at a straight shot up I-71 and roughly 45 minutes behind the wheel. Morrow County, farm country, gate, done.
That distance does something specific for a holiday weekend. It is far enough that the sky gets genuinely dark and your kids notice the stars and get philosophical about space at 10:40 PM when they were supposed to be asleep an hour ago. It is close enough that a forgotten phone charger is an inconvenience, not a crisis.
No flights. No layovers. No gas total that makes you make a noise in the car.
If you want a quiet morning before the day gets loud, Mt. Gilead State Park is right there for a walk with a coffee.
Cabin, RV site or tent: pick your energy
There is no correct answer, only the answer that matches your family’s tolerance for bugs.
Cabin. Furnished, real beds, a door that closes. This is for the family that wants campfires and s’mores but also wants a place to plug in the sound machine. Linens available to rent if hauling bedding is not your idea of a vacation. One vehicle per cabin, and pet friendly cabins can be requested when booking.
Full hookup RV site. You know your setup, you know your routine. Water, electric, sewer, up to two vehicles, and you are leveled and settled before the kids finish negotiating bunk assignments.
Tent site. The cheapest way in and honestly the version kids remember most vividly. Bring a real sleeping pad and it is a great night. One heads up: pets are not allowed at tent sites, so if the dog is coming, go cabin or RV.
Logistics that save you a phone call later: check in is 4 PM, checkout is 11 AM, quiet hours run 11 PM to 8 AM, and outside firewood is not permitted but they sell it on site.
Why here and not just anywhere with a fire ring
Central Ohio has no shortage of campgrounds. Worth knowing what makes this one different.
Jellystone Park™ Columbus North was named Park of the Year for medium sized parks by the Outdoor Hospitality Industry in 2024. That is a national recognition, and it tends to reflect the things photos cannot show you: whether the bathrooms are clean at 4 PM on a Saturday, whether the staff seem glad you are there, and whether the activity schedule is real or decorative.

Book it before the week gets away from you
Labor Day is the busiest stretch of the season and it starts Monday.
